As a diverse group of passionate students and young professionals (SYPs) from across the country, we, the Canadian Global Health Students and Young Professionals Summit (GHSYPS), join the many organizations and individuals taking a stand against anti-Black racism and racial injustice.
We recognize that systemic racism has significant negative impacts on the health and lives of Black communities in Canada, in North America and across the globe, and that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has brought these inequities into sharper focus. We further recognize that racial biases in research and scholarship often leave Black, Indigenous and racialized communities out of important conversations. Racism is a public health crisis that perpetuates health inequities and it must be taken seriously as a global issue.
Black Lives Matter. GHSYPS stands in solidarity with the Black community. We are committed to listening, learning and unlearning as we continue to work collaboratively towards ending racial prejudice and injustice. We are dedicated to using our unique platform to amplify calls to action beyond the current news cycle. We will continue to create inclusive and accessible spaces for SYPs to connect, engage and serve as global changemakers to advance health equity for everyone, everywhere.
