Meet the 2022 team!

Below, you will be able to meet the amazing people who worked hard to make the GHSYPS conference a reality this year! Special thanks to the CAGH staff, including Judith Martin, Eva Slawecki, Nazik Avagyan, Sean Rideout, Grace Zhou, Ben René, and Olivia Jobin.

Satveer Kaur Dhillon

Satveer Dhillon (she/her) is the Co-Lead of the Global Health Students and Young Professionals Summits (GHSYPS) committee and the Event Planning Co-Lead of CAGH’s Students and Young Professionals Network Executive Committee. She is currently completing her Master’s in Health Geography at Western University and graduated from the University of Waterloo with a major in Health Studies. Satveer also works with ROTOM, a non-profit organization focusing on seniors and their dependents in Uganda and Ethiopia. Previously, she also had the opportunity to work with the Region of Peel’s Health Services division through various co-op placements, where she helped with COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Planning and projects related to long-term care homes. Satveer is extremely excited to collaborate with the other members of the GHSYPS committee!

Matt Jalink

Matt Jalink is a PhD candidate in Epidemiology at Queen’s University studying the impacts of cancer treatment delay on patient survival in both high- and low-income country settings. He also works as a research consultant for the Department of Internal Medicine and Queen’s University and serves as the Education and Professional Development Co-lead with the Canadian Association for Global Health Student and Young Professional Network.

Matt’s passion for tackling the challenges of healthcare access and achieving value in cancer care has allowed him to work with international cancer and global health organizations in Canada, New Zealand, Tanzania, Kenya, Nepal India, and Sri Lanka. While living in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, he worked as an epidemiologist and project officer with the Aga Khan Health Services coordinating a successful 15-million-euro grant aimed at strengthening cancer care across Tanzania. He also held the role of Queen’s Global Oncology program manager responsible for providing management and epidemiological support to 20+ global oncology projects across the globe. He has published articles in several high-impact journals including the BMJ and Lancet Oncology.

During his free time, Matt is an avid traveller, rock climber, sailor, and canoeist who enjoys camping and learning new languages.

Elisabeth Huang

is Huang is one of the Co-Chairs for this year’s Global Health Students and Young Professionals Summit.

As an individual who is passionate about collaborating with others to address systemic issues to foster a more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable future, she had the privilege of contributing to various sectors, which include health, international development, economic development, and education. She is highly interested in applying innovative and evidence-based solutions to drive social impact.

Elisabeth holds an MSc in Global Health from McMaster University. When she is not working, she can be most likely found cycling, jogging, volunteering, or experimenting with food.

Mishail Bhatia

Mishail is a public health professional with a Master of Public Health degree from Western University. She is currently the Program Coordinator of the SPARK Knowledge Mobilization Program at Children’s Healthcare Canada. She is passionate about global health equity, health policy, and reducing health inequities for marginalized populations.

Hannah Dawson

Esther Kim

This year, Esther is serving as the Communications Lead for the Global Health Students and Young Professionals Summits (GHSYPS) committee. She is currently completing a Master of Public Health, with a specialization in Indigenous Health. Esther is excited for this year’s summit, as it will be in-person, and can’t wait to learn from both the speakers and the attendees!

In her spare time, Esther enjoys running, climbing, reading, and re-watching episodes of New Girl.

Margaret Mutumba

Margaret Mutumba is passionate public health scholar with over 10 years of experience in maternal, child and sexual & reproductive health in Sub-Saharan Africa. Some of her work includes initiatives focused on reduction of maternal mortality, youth impacted/orphaned by the HIV epidemic, sexual & reproductive health advocacy and more recently, addressing barriers to family forming due to infertility. Margaret is also the founder of MedAtlas; a digital health startup whose goal is simplifying access to specialist healthcare in Africa. MedAtlas has won innovation awards and aims to leverage technology advances to deliver fast, affordable, quality specialist care to the continent.

This year, Margaret will be serving as the moderator for the panel!

Stephanie Puras

Stephanie Puras is a compassionate and team-oriented, global health professional, with a particular interest in maternal-child health disparities in Sub-Sahara Africa She holds an MSc in Global Health from McMaster University, where she researched the maternal-health impacts of community health workers in Tanzania. While at McMaster, she also worked on a university-led research project focussing on newborn screening in Sub-Sahara African countries with a high prevalence of Sickle Cell Anemia. Steph’s aspirations have given her the opportunities to work internationally with non-governmental organizations on projects in Ethiopia and Ghana. Currently, Steph is an administrator for the Surgical and Oncology departments at Mount Sinai Hospital. However, she hopes to be involved in more internationally focussed health initiatives in the future. She is excited to be a part of the 2022 GHSYPS team!
